The 46MW Mozura wind farm in Montenegro has received an official visit from the country’s premier along with the Prime Minister of Malta as well as representatives from Shanghai Electric Power.
Prime Minister Dusko Markovic was joined by the Maltese leader Joseph Muscat at the opening ceremony for Montenegro’s second largest wind farm.
Ministry of Economy of Montenegro Dragica Sekulic and Minister for Energy and Water Management of Malta Joe Mizzi commissioned the wind farm.
Mozura consists of 23 2MW turbines supplied by Chinese manufacturer Envision Energy.
Malta provided investment for the renewable energy project via state-backed Enemalta, jointly with Shanghai Electric Power, and the developer, Malta Montenegro Wind Park Company.
Mozura will produce about 120 gigawatt hours of electricity a year, substituting energy imports worth around €6m.
Due to regulatory amendments the wind farm will not affect adversely the electricity bills of consumers in Montenegro.
The long-term land lease agreement covering the site the plant is built on stipulates that the wind farm will, after the lease period expires, be fully revitalised into permanent state ownership in 2035.
