UK renewables outfit Octopus Energy has opened a new office in Brighton and aims to hire 80 new employees over the next 12 months.
Octopus has expanded its south-east UK business operations to a new Brighton location at Queens Road Quadrant from its previous premises in the North Laines area.
This will be the second move and recruitment drive in two years, the company said.
Octopus already has 100 employees in Brighton and is recruiting new operations team members and engineers.
“The company wants to invest in Brighton’s talent and is looking to hire regional graduates,” the company said.
Octopus Energy is also supporting the city’s efforts to reach net zero by providing green energy to the local economy.
Octopus said its ‘Brighton Business Power’ tariff is already powering more than 225 local businesses, including Brighton Palace Pier, with 100% renewable energy, locally sourced from Octopus Group’s Natewood solar farm near Hailsham.
The tariff also supports local community energy schemes around Brighton. For every business that signs up, a £25 donation is made to Brighton’s The Clock Tower Sanctuary.
Octopus Energy Services chief executive John Szymik said: “Octopus Energy is disrupting the energy industry, using the awesome power of our technology and our incredibly talented people to bring energy that’s good for the planet to over 1.6 million customers here in the UK alone.
“We’ve always had a synergy with Brighton & Hove as it’s a city where many residents and businesses share our values.
“It’s a pleasure to double-down here by opening our brand new office in the heart of the city, giving us the space to create many more career opportunities for like-minded people as our business continues to grow.”
