The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) as well as offshore energy contractors are marking Day of the Seafarer, today.
This year is the tenth anniversary of the Day of the Seafarer, organised by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
IMCA said is an “ideal opportunity” to acknowledge the contribution of seafarers in keeping the global supply chain moving and understand the current issues they are facing.
“Like offshore energy workers, including those working in the renewable energy sector, many seafarers have been away from home for months longer than scheduled and are unsure when they will be able to return home due to travel restrictions brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic,” IMCA stated.
IMCA fully supports the IMO’s Day of the Seafarer campaign which is seeking to raise awareness of the work carried out by seafarers in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and to thank them for their contribution.
DEME stated: “A big thank you to our wonderful DEME crew on the Day of the Seafarer, grateful for their tireless efforts to ensure vital infrastructure projects stay on track against the backdrop of many COVID restrictions.”
James Fisher and Sons said: “We are proud to recognise our employees who work at sea, and we want to pay particular thanks for the additional time away from home they are sacrificing to continue to meet demand during a global pandemic”.
