Six Flags Great Adventure’s Ultimate Thrill Park in the US is now receiving power from renewable energy following the completion of an over 23MW solar farm.
The PV plant has been built by KDC Solar at the theme park in New Jersey.
The solar power is spread across various sites, with 11MW on carports and 12.5MW made up of ground-mounted panels.
A net metering system allows Six Flags to generate its own clean energy and also export power into the grid to serve nearby homes and businesses.
KDC Solar president and chief executive Alan Epstein said: “Six Flags demonstrated its unwavering commitment to clean, solar power by its steadfast partnership with us throughout this process.
“This groundbreaking project perfectly aligns with both Governor Murphy and the New Jersey Senate and Assembly’s support of renewable solar energy. We look forward to a long, continued partnership with Six Flags Great Adventure.”
Six Flags Great Adventure Park president John Winkler said: “This is a thrilling day for our company. This project represents a giant step toward becoming a net-zero carbon facility.
“Clean energy is right for the environment and our future, and we look forward to decades of environmental stewardship with our partner, KDC Solar.
“We are continually searching for new ways to operate more efficiently and enhance our role as good stewards of the environment.”
Six Flags is the world’s largest regional theme park company and the largest operator of waterparks in North America, with $1.5bn in revenue and 26 parks across the US States, Mexico and Canada.
