Scottish firms will enjoy over £93m of investment during the construction of Vattenfall’s 50-turbine South Kyle Wind Farm in East Ayrshire, Scotland.
An analysis by Biggar Economics was published to coincide with construction reaching the halfway mark at the 240MW capacity site between Dalmellington, New Cumnock and Carsphairn.
Vattenfall’s Head of UK Onshore Development Frank Elsworth said that by working with suppliers and local communities, the Swedish outfit is delivering a huge boost to the economy.
He said: “Working towards a shared goal in partnership with our balance of plant contractor RJ McLeod, turbine provider Nordex, forestry contractors Euroforest and RTS, and Dumfries and Galloway’s own Natural Power, as well as local authorities and community organisations, has enabled us to achieve this.”
The analysis found 720 jobs were supported during peak activity at the wind farm, with 270 in southwest Scotland.
Around £44m has been awarded to businesses with a presence in Ayrshire or Dumfries and Galloway since construction began in 2020.
As reported by reNEWS today, all 50 of the turbine foundations have been finished and turbines have begun arriving at the Port of Ayr.
The wind farm, owned by Greencoat but being developed by Vattenfall, will be fully operational in 2023.
