US beer giant Budweiser is ensuring that the city of Atlanta will use 100% renewable electricity for six days ahead and during this year’s Super Bowl American football game.
The power will come through a deal with Enel Green Power’s 298MW Thunder Ranch wind farm in Oklahoma, as part of an existing power purchase agreement between the developer and Anheuser-Busch, which brews Budweiser.
Anheuser-Busch is buying about 600 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year from a 152.5MW portion of Thunder Ranch.
It will donate renewable energy certificates to Atlanta to offset power demand during the week of the Super Bowl.
The power in Atlanta won’t come directly from Enel’s wind farm, but Thunder Ranch wind farm will ‘replace’ the power consumed for the big game.
