Energy storage provider Wartsila is investing €500,000 of seed funding into Soletair Power, a Finnish start-up behind a technology for producing renewable fuel.
Soletair Power’s concept can improve air quality in buildings by capturing carbon dioxide gas and converting it to a synthetic renewable fuel.
The start-up claims its technology can turn buildings into carbon sinks and by capturing carbon dioxide indoor air quality is also improved leading to better productivity and cognitive abilities.
Wartsila said it sees great value in the Soletair Power concept and will provide global support in the development and commercialisation of the technology.
Wartsila director for strategy and business development Matti Rautkivi said: “As an energy systems integrator, Wartsila understands, designs, optimises, builds and serves complex power systems enabling our customers to create sustainable energy for the future.
“To achieve this, we build strategic partnerships, innovate with start-up companies, and actively recruit new talent to strengthen and support our expertise in new business areas.”
He added, “Our funding for Soletair Power Oy is a concrete example of this philosophy, and it takes us one step closer to 100% renewable world.”
