WindEurope has produced an infographic that aims to provide key facts about onshore wind in Europe.
The EU wants onshore wind to grow from 174GW today to up to 750GW, averaging 23GW of new capacity installations every year over the next 30 years, WindEurope said.
Last year Europe installed 12GW of new onshore wind in Europe, the year before that 9GW.
WindEurope said governments need to be more ambitious on onshore wind, which will require simplifying permitting, facilitating repowering and planning where new capacity can be installed.
WindEurope said that while some governments worry about public opinion in public polls over 70% consistently support more onshore wind.
Benefits include local jobs, revenues for local communities, cheap energy and clean air, the trade association said.
“We’ve produced this new infographic to tell the story. It spells out the arguments one by one. It sets out the key facts and figures. It dispels myths. It will help us convince people,” said Giles Dickson (pictured), WindEurope CEO.
