Arizona Public Service Company (APS) will add new solar and wind capacity with a combined total capacity of 400MW by 2021.
The US energy company plans to issue two requests for proposal (RFPs) by 15 September 2019.
The first RFP will seek competitive proposals for up to 150MW of APS-owned solar resources.
The generation will be designed with the flexibility to add energy storage as a future option.
A second RFP will pursue up to 250MW of wind capacity to be in service as soon as possible, but no later than 2022.
The new capacity will expand the US energy supplier’s renewable energy portfolio to 2500MW by 2021.
Both RFPs will allow commercial customers to partner with APS.
For each RFP, a different third-party, independent monitor will review the entire procurement process.
More specific information about each solicitation will be released in the coming weeks.
Using a balanced energy mix that is 50% APS has one of the country’s cleanest energy portfolios in the US.
