Aura Power wins nod for 49.9MW UK solar farm

Aura Power has secured full planning permission for the 49,900KW Moreton Brook Solar Farm in East Staffordshire.

The approval follows East Staffordshire Borough Council’s March resolution to grant consent, which was finalised after completion of a Section 106 Agreement.

The solar farm will generate enough renewable electricity to supply the equivalent of around 11,500 homes and is expected to save an estimated 12,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually compared with gas generation, according to Aura Power.

The site will also deliver a biodiversity net gain of more than 100%, including species-rich grassland, wildflower meadows, bird nesting plots and towers, and enhanced native tree and hedgerow planting.

Aura Power aims to begin construction in spring 2027 with a grid connection scheduled for September that year.

The project joins the developer’s portfolio of nearly 0.6GWp of ready-to-build solar schemes, with three farms already under construction.

Aura Power’s flagship Kemble project is due for completion later this year, while Burtree Lane and Grimsby are expected online in early 2026.

The company will provide a £20,000 annual community benefit fund as part of the Moreton Brook development.

George Wilyman, UK head of planning at Aura Power, said: “We’re pleased to have received planning consent for Moreton Brook Solar Farm, which represents another important step in delivering low-carbon energy infrastructure in the UK.

“This project reflects our continued commitment to well-designed, locally informed developments, which support both the national energy transition and biodiversity enhancements.”
