German clean energy developer BayWa has completed what it says is Spain’s first solar PV self-consumption installation.
The 288kW solar roof installation is for agricultural cooperative Pastores Grupo Cooperativo.
By having its own source of solar-generated electricity to run its lamb processing plant in Zaragoza, Pastores Grupo Cooperativo is expected to save €700,000 on its energy costs over 25 years.
The installation is a result of the European SCOoPE project, run out of Madrid, which supports the uptake of energy efficiency by European agri-businesses and cooperatives.
Working closely with Spanish agri-food cooperatives BayWa customised a specialised PV design that turns under-used rooftops into renewable energy generation plants to save energy and reduce costs, according to BayWa managing director Claus Bunermann.
The company delivered the installation three months after agreeing the project, supported by construction firm SUD Energies Renovables.
The installation includes Huawei inverters and Longi panels mounted on a reinforced roof mounting system developed by Novetegra, to withstand the region’s strong winds.
