UK developer WElink Energy has awarded the construction of a 220MW solar park in Portugal to China Triumph International Engineering Company (CTIEC).
The companies signed an engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the £200m Solara4 photovoltaic plant at Vaqueiras in the Algarve.
Construction is expected to start this month and commissioning is scheduled by the middle of 2018, WElink said.
The facility will be Europe’s largest un-subsidised solar plant, according to the developer.
CTIEC is the engineering arm of China National Building Material Co., a partner of WElink.
‘We are delighted by this deal to develop one of the world’s largest green energy power plants in Portugal,” WElink chief executive Barry O’Neill said.
“WElink has a history of delivering solar farms throughout the world and this development we have added to our portfolio is our most significant to date.”
