Consumers Energy has agreed to add 375MW to its renewable portfolio from three solar projects in Michigan.
Under the agreements, which are awaiting approval by the Michigan Public Service Commission, Consumers Energy would own and operate one facility, while purchasing power from the other two.
The 150MW Washtenaw project is being built by Invenergy, which will transfer ownership over the US utility once it is operational.
Consumers Energy will then purchase 125MW for 20 years from National Grid Renewables’ Jackson facility and will also buy electricity for 25 years from NextEra’s 100MW Cereal City project.
The new solar projects are all set to come online in 2023.
They are part of the company’s plans to add 8GW of utility-scale solar power to its portfolio by 2040, including 1.1GW by 2024.
