Central Bedfordshire Council has approved the 21MW Lowfield solar farm in Sandy.
The planning committee granted consent following a positive officer recommendation, with the decision ratified this week after a consultation process led by developer Renewable Connections.
Michael Hughes, chief executive officer at Renewable Connections, said: “Lowfield Solar Farm will generate enough clean energy to power over 9,500 homes.
“The project will improve energy stability and security in Bedfordshire and the UK, displacing over 200,000 tonnes of CO2 over the lifetime of the project.
“We thank the local community and elected members who have been highly engaged and supportive throughout the development process.”
The scheme spans around 47 hectares with south-tilting panels arranged east-west across the site.
The project, being delivered with European Energy UK, includes a community benefit package of about £42,000 to support local initiatives once the site is energised.
