Two solar plants totalling 97MW have been inaugurated in the Dominican Republic.
The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, inaugurated the Cumayasa 1 and 2 solar plants along with the Luis de Valdivia, president of Ecoener, the developer.
De Valdivia said: “This stage of strong growth and stability in our income is consolidated.
“These new facilities allow us to take an important leap in our dimension.”
By the end of 2024, the company will have five photovoltaic parks in the Dominican Republic, in which it will invest $289m in total.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Antonio Almonte; the director of the National Energy Commission (CNE), Edward Veras, among other relevant members of its executive, as well as prominent regional and local authorities.
De Valdivia also said that indicated that the parks inaugurated today “underline Ecoener’s commitment to the Dominican Republic and are the first reality of the important projects that the company is promoting thanks to the country’s attractive investment.”
Cumayasa 1 and 2 will allow Ecoener to guarantee revenues worth $250m over the next 15 years, thanks to the two power purchase agreements signed with one of the main energy marketing and distribution companies in of the Dominican Republic.
The portfolio of five that will all be online by the end of 2024 includes a third 62MW solar plant in Cumayasa and two plants in the province of María Trinidad Sanchez), in the north of the country.
Called Payita 1 and Payita 2, they will have a joint installed power of 120MW.
