Dominion Energy is developing a 150MW photovoltaic project in Prince George County, Virginia.
When operational in 2021 the Fort Powhatan solar plant will be largest PV asset in Dominion Energy’s Virginia solar portfolio.
Dominion Energy will own and operate the facility and provide the energy and renewable energy certificates to a data centre under a long-term contract.
The utility currently has more than 40 solar facilities totalling 1.5GW of capacity either operational or under development in the state of Virginia.
Fort Powhatan will help Dominion reach its goal of 3000MW of new solar and wind energy in operation or under development in Virginia by 2022.
Nationwide, Dominion Energy owns the fourth-largest solar fleet among utility holding companies.
In the third quarter of 2019 the utility achieved unaudited earnings of $975m ($1.17 per share) compared with net income of $854m ($1.30 per share) for the same period in 2018.
Operating earnings for the three months ended 30 September 2019 were $967m, compared with operating earnings of $758m for the same period last year.
Dominion Energy chief executive Thomas Farrell said: “Strong performance across our business units, combined with favourable weather, resulted in operating earnings per share above the midpoint of our quarterly guidance range.
“Weather-normalised results were also above the midpoint of our guidance range.”
