EDF Energies Nouvelles has purchased an 80% stake in the 92MW Pirapora 3 photovoltaic (PV) project in Brazil from Canadian Solar.
The latter will retain a 20% interest in the plant and supply PV panels from its local manufacturing base.
EDF EN do Brasil will manage both the construction and operation of Pirapora 3, which has a 20-year power purchase agreement and is expected to reach commercial operation in the fourth quarter of this year.
The subsidiary previously bought an 80% interest from Canadian Solar in the 191.5MW Pirapora 1 and 115MW Pirapora 2 projects.
Once commissioned next year, the three projects will form the largest solar facility in Latin America with a total installed capacity of approximately 400MW, Canadian Solar said.
EDF EN chief executive Antoine Cahuzac said: “This acquisition constitutes further evidence of our growth ambitions in Brazil.”
