EDF Renewables has started a consultation on an almost 50MW solar farm in Cambridgeshire, England.

The company is planning to develop the 49.9MW Cadenham project to the west of the A14 Newmarket bypass, and south east of the villages of Swaffham Prior and Swaffham Bulbeck.

A number of ecological and feasibility surveys have been carried out and the company is consulting with local people at an early stage about the proposal to get views ahead of submitting a planning application later this year.

EDF said that there are a range of ecological and landscape enhancements that would be delivered as part of the development which will result in biodiversity improvements, including planting new hedgerows and trees.

Residents near to the site are being contacted by post and members of the public are encouraged to visit EDF Renewables’ Cadenham website for further information, to register for live online events and to provide feedback.

The public consultation closes on 19 July.

EDF Renewables head of development Stephen Walls said: “We look forward to hearing local people’s views on the Cadenham project and giving them the opportunity to speak to us at this early stage of the project.

“We believe this is a great site for a solar farm, as it’s suitably sunny, with an agreed grid connection, and the area is well screened.

“EDF Renewables is an experienced developer and we are firmly committed to solar as a technology which will help us accelerate a net zero future where clean energy powers our lives.

“If we secure planning permission, investments like these will also contribute to the UK’s green economic recovery from Covid-199.”
