EDF power solutions Ireland will begin construction of the almost 80MW Taduff Solar Park in County Roscommon later this month.
The company said the project, located c.6km southwest of Athlone, will power around 20,000 homes and contribute to Ireland’s 2030 climate targets.
It added that the solar farm is expected to be operational by Spring 2028, when a community benefit fund of c.€180,000 per year will be established for 15 years.
EDF power solutions Ireland noted the fund will support local initiatives and activities, while the project will also contribute to the local economy through commercial rates paid to Roscommon County Council.
The developer is working with Roscommon County Council, contractors and local stakeholders to deliver the project and minimise disruption during construction.
