Enel Green Power has completed and grid-connected the 828MW Villanueva and 260MW Don Jose solar farms in Mexico.
Villanueva is located in the municipality of Viesca in Coahuila and comprises over 2.5 million solar panels capable of producing more than 2000 gigawatt-hours a year.
Don Jose, which is at San Luis de la Paz in Guanajuato, consists of over 810,000 panels and can generate 625GWh a year of electricity.
Total investment in the projects was $950m, of which $710m went to Villanueva and $240m Don Jose.
Enel Green Power head Antonio Cammisecra said: “Villanueva and Don Jose are two groundbreaking projects that mark the significant headway Enel Green Power has made in the strategic Mexican market.
“The completion of the two facilities helps solidify our leadership in the country in terms of renewable capacity, while further contributing to the country’s transition towards more sustainable energy.”
Both projects were awarded to Enel in Mexico’s first auction following energy reform in March 2016.
