Equinor has complete the construction of a 58MW solar plant in Poland.
The Stępień solar plant is ready for operation and will be operated by Wento, Equinor’s 100% subsidiary, which it acquired in 2021.
Stępień is located in the Braniewo municipality, part of the Warmia region in the north of Poland.
“With Wento, we are uniquely positioned to build a material solar portfolio in one of Europe’s most rapidly growing renewable energy markets.
“During the first year of our ownership, we sanctioned construction of three solar plants in Poland with a total capacity of 171MW.
“Today, we are proud to inaugurate our first solar plant Stępień, while the two other plants are expected to be ready in 2023-2024”, said Olav Kolbeinstveit, senior vice president for power and markets within Renewables at Equinor.
Equinor plans to bring the electricity from the solar plant to the market through a power purchase agreement.
Danske Commodities has signed a balancing agreement with Equinor for Stepien, which marks its entry into the Polish renewables market.
Under the agreement, Danske Commodities will provide market access and balancing for Stepien.
“We are proud to announce Danske Commodities’ first renewables deal in Poland.
“With more than 10 years of experience trading power in the Polish market, we will use our trading expertise to support energy producers with balancing and route-to-market services,” said Jesper Tronborg, VP, Head of Global Trading & Market Development at Danske Commodities.
