Florida Power & Light (FPL) has completed three 74.5MW solar parks in the US state and is planning to build four more projects of the same size this year.
The utility commissioned the Babcock Ranch, Citrus and Manatee photovoltaic plants on time and under budget, it said. They take FPL’s total solar installed capacity to 335MW.
FPL plans to install four more 74.5MW solar parks across the state this year, at permitted sites in Alachua, Putnam and DeSoto counties.
Construction is expected to start as early as the first quarter of 2017.
The utility is developing other large-scale solar projects that it may announce in the coming months, it said.
“FPL has been leading the smart, cost-conscious expansion of solar in Florida since we built our first solar power plant back in 2009,” chief executive Eric Silagy said.
“By investing strategically in affordable clean energy, we continue to improve the efficiency of our system, reduce fuel consumption, lower emissions and help keep costs down for our customers over the long term.”
