German developer Ib Vogt started commercial operations at three solar farms with a combined capacity of over 166MW at the Benban complex in Egypt.
The projects are the MMID 30, Phoenix 50 and BSEP 50 and were awarded under the second round of Egypt’s feed-in tariff programme.
They comprise more than 500,000 panels mounted on horizontal tracking systems across 270 hectares and will deliver 400,000 megawatt-hours of electricity.
Power generated is delivered to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
The International Finance Corporation, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the CDC Group provided the financing for the Phoenix 50 project, while BSEP 50 and MMID 30 were funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Dutch Development Bank and the Green Climate Fund.
Total debt financing for the projects was $146m..
Ib Vogt managing director Anton Milner said: “The successful delivery of these solar plants…completes our 230.6 MWp portfolio in the Benban complex.”
The company is developing further PV plants in the Middle East, North Africa and Sub-Sahara region.
