Iberdrola is developing 150MW of solar photovoltaic capacity in Portugal, having been awarded projects from the country’s largest energy auction of the past decade.
The solar capacity will be built in two regions, the Algarve and the Tajo Valley, following a public auction held by the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment and Energy Transition through the General Directorate of Energy and Geology.
Operador do Mercado Iberico de Energia (OMIP) organised the auction.
Iberdrola chairman Ignacio Galan said: “These new projects are an example of Iberdrola’s commitment to renewable energy sources as a way of contributing to the transition toward a decarbonised Europe.”
As well as developing the Tamega hydro complex, Iberdrola owns 92MW of wind power in the country, distributed among three wind farms, Catefica, in Torres Vedras, Alto do Moncao, in Mortagua and Tondela, and Serra do Alvao, in Ribeira de Pena.
