Ilmatar has announced plans to develop two large-scale solar projects in Joroinen, Finland, with a combined capacity of around 230MW.
The 160MW Vuotsinsuo and 55-70MW Huutokoski schemes are expected to be brought online in 2025, the developer said, adding to an existing array in the same region.
“In addition to wind power, Ilmatar’s strategy now invests heavily in the development of solar power production,” said projects director Erkka Saario.
“In Joroinen, we have already completed our first solar park, and the experience gained has been very valuable.”
The new schemes are planned for development in areas of forestry and former peat production, to the northwest and south of the municipal centre respectively.
Ilmatar’s Elviira Ritari added: “Our goal is to complete the permits by autumn so that construction would begin in 2024.
“As a developer, we always favour local and Finnish companies and entrepreneurs whenever possible. We want to be present in the community as a positive influencer.”
