Engineering firm Innosea has been awarded a European Horizon 2020 R&D grant to work on designing more efficient and cost-effective floating solar PV plants.
Innosea, a LOC Group company, will work on a project led by the EURAC European Academy of Bolzano in Italy, aiming to develop accurate numerical and cost models for the development of PV plants.
The company’s focus will be on the comparative performance and reliability of floating versus ground-mounted solar PV, the numerical modelling of floating solar farm behaviour and operations & maintenance drivers, along with guidelines for future revamping and repowering.
Work on the project will start in September 2020 and is expected to take approximately four years to complete.
Innosea floating solar head Félix Gorintin said the win reflected Innosea’s expertise in floating solar PV, adding that the work would establish “a strong knowledge base for the success of future floating solar projects worldwide.”
