JA Solar Holdings posted an operating profit of RMB188m ($28.3m) in the second quarter of 2016, up 20% from RMB156.1m in the same period last year.
Net revenue was RMB4.1bn between 1 April and 30 June, an increase of 51.9% on the second quarter of 2015.
The results were boosted by shipments of solar modules and cells totalling 1380.8MW, of which 1229.3MW went to external customers – a 55.5% rise on the same period last year.
JA Solar chairman and chief executive Baofang Jin said the results were in line with expectations.
He said China was the company’s strongest market, but cautioned that accelerated activity in the country came ahead of subsidy reductions.
“While regulatory change should slow the domestic Chinese market in the second half of the year, we believe our balanced global footprint and flexible business model will allow us to adjust to evolving market conditions,” he said.
The company expects total cell and module shipments to be in the range of 1.2GW to 1.3GW in the third quarter and 5.2GW to 5.5GW for the whole year.
