Kyocera TCL Solar has started construction of a 13.7MW floating solar plant on the Yamakura Dam reservoir in Japan.
Kyocera TCL Solar – a joint venture between Kyocera Corp (19%) and Century Tokyo Leasing Corp (81%) – said the floating solar is the largest in the world and will be in operation by 31 March 2018.
The plant will consist of 51,000 270-watt Kyocera modules installed over a fresh water surface of 180,000 metres squared.
Electricity generated by the project will be bought by Tokyo Electric Power Company.
