Green Genius bags €87m to build 126MW Jekabpils

Nordic Investment Bank and NORD/LB will provide up to €64m to finance two 91MWp solar farms in Lithuania for Green Genius.

The sites in Izabelinė and Lieponys will also feature an 18MW battery storage system at Izabelinė to improve grid integration.

NIB will lend €28m under the InvestEU programme, while NORD/LB will provide €36m.

Green Genius said the projects will combine large-scale solar generation with battery storage in a hybrid model to balance supply and demand.

CFO Rokas Bancevičius said: “This partnership enables us to implement one of the most technologically advanced renewable energy solutions in the region.

“It’s a future-proof system that helps stabilise the grid, balances supply and demand, and supports the broader energy transition more smartly and sustainably.”

NIB associate director Martin Lundström said: “In recent years, Lithuania has rapidly expanded its renewable energy capacity, and we are proud to be part of this journey.”

NORD/LB head of energy origination Europe Niels Jakeman said: “The sites will play an essential role in boosting the country’s PV capacity and driving forward its renewable energy transition.”

Together, the projects will generate about 100GWh annually and cut 67,000 tonnes of CO2 each year.

Construction is due to start in August 2025, with commercial operation expected in July 2027.

Green Genius has a renewable portfolio of about 2.7GW across seven European markets.
