North Macedonia’s first large-scale photovoltaic plant is nearing the end of its construction phase.
The developer Europower Solar has nearly completed the 11.7MW first phase of the Oslomej solar project, which is located alongside a coal-fired power plant in Kichevo.
Executives from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which is financing the project, and the national public utility ESM recently visited the facility to check the progress of the construction.
The future photovoltaic plants to be developed to complete the project pipeline at the location will be built on a former coal mine.
Europower Solar is part of Turkish group Girisim Elektrik.
The project is equipped with eight Ingeteam solar inverters of 1400kW each.
The Oslomej project is an important milestone for North Macedonia, since it marks “firm commitment” by the country’s government to the energy transition towards a cleaner generation model, as reflected in the energy law approved by the government in December 2020, stated Ingeteam.
