DE Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI) has acquired the 100MW North Star solar park in Minnesota from Pennsylvania developer Community Energy.
Swinerton Renewable Energy has started building the facility, which will start operating later this year, the investor said.
It will comprise more than 400,000 crystalline photovoltaic modules using single-axis tracking technology.
The facility benefits from a 25-year power purchase agreement with Minnesota-based Xcel Energy.
“We are pleased to partner with renewable industry leaders like Xcel Energy and Community Energy as we begin construction on the largest solar energy project in the Midwest,” said DE Shaw group head of US private equity Bryan Martin.
