A 353MW solar farm in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, has entered into operation.
Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Australia, part of Jameel Energy and Canadian infrastructure fund OMERS, built the Walla Walla solar plant in NSW’s Riverina region.
The asset plays a key role in meeting the New South Wales government’s renewable energy targets, while contributing significantly to the local economy.
During its construction, Walla Walla created up to 350 jobs, helping to boost employment opportunities and investment in regional services.
Prior to the start of construction, FRV Australia signed a 15-year power purchase agreement with Microsoft to supply renewable energy from the project to its data centres in Australia.
Walla Walla represents the eighth operational project in FRV Australia’s portfolio.
Together, these schemes now have a total power capacity of nearly 1GW.
Earlier this year FRV Australia completed a A$1.2bn refinancing of the entire project portfolio in Australia, which also includes Walla Walla.
It has also reached financial close for the 100MW/200MWh Terang large-scale battery project, currently under construction.
FRV Australia chief executive Carlo Frigerio said: “The first kilowatt-hour of Walla Walla solar farm reinforces our commitment to delivering high-impact renewable energy projects.
“This achievement not only supports Australia’s renewable energy targets, but also reinforces our position as a key player in the sector.”
