Peel Cubico Renewables has launched a consultation for its Frodsham Solar project in Cheshire, north-west England.
The first phase of consultation is now open and will run from Thursday 1 June for six weeks until Thursday 13 July 2023, as reported in a recent issue of the subscriber-only edition of reNEWS.
Peel Cubico Renewables is in the early stages of planning the roughly 150MW Frodsham Solar project.
A planning application is due to be submitted to the UK’s Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project regime in 2024 with a decision expected in 2025.
The developer has already secured a 100MW grid connection agreement with SP Energy Networks effective December 2026, at the 275kV Frodsham substation.
It also intends to supply power directly to a neighbouring industrial cluster via private wire connections.
Battery storage facilities are also planned for the site, which will be built adjacent to the operational 50MW Frodsham wind farm, owned by Foresight since 2019.
Frodsham Solar development manager Annette Lardeur said the project offers a “unique opportunity” to decarbonise both homes and industry in the North West.
The region is one of several UK “clusters” where renewable energy is being deployed to help reduce emissions produced by heavy industry.
