Solar crew given green light for 53MW Italian PV

Photon Energy has started construction of its second solar farm in Romania which will have a total capacity of 5MW.

The PV project, located near Aiud, in Alba County, will annually deliver approximately 6.8 GWh of renewable energy to the network owned by Distributie Energie Electrică Romania.

It is scheduled to be put into operations in the fourth quarter of 2022 and will cover 6.6 hectares of land with approximately 8,700 solar panels.

The plant will be owned and operated by Holloway Solar SRL, a special purpose company, wholly owned by Photon Energy Group.

Photon is currently developing a number of solar farms in Romania with a total combined capacity of 236MW, of which 115MW are in an advanced stage of development.

The Dutch developer recently started the construction of its first power plant in Romania, near Syria, with a production capacity of 5.7MW and expects to put a further 22MW of projects into operation by the end of this year.

Photon said that upon commissioning of this plant, it will operate 90 solar power plants with a combined production capacity of 102.3MW.

A combined capacity of 90MW will be sold as clean electricity without subsidies directly on the energy market, the developer added.

Photon Energy CEO Georg Hotar said: “We are very pleased to continue the work in Romania, one of our key markets in Central and Eastern Europe, executing our development strategy, as announced in the 2022 Financial Guideline.

“The Aiud plant marks another important step in our efforts to put into operation a total capacity of approximately 32MW in Romania by the end of 2022.

“Only these new assets will expand our independent energy producer portfolio to over 120MW by the end of the year.”
