Renewable Connections has received approval for the South Park Solar Farm east of Tidworth.
The 15MW project in North West Hampshire was approved by Test Valley Borough Council on 3 November 2022.
The project has been developed in partnership with European Energy (EE) and once operational will have a lifespan of up to forty years.
The scheme will cover 34 hectares of land and construction of the solar farm will involve the installation of photovoltaic panels, which convert sunlight directly into renewable electricity.
South Park Solar Farm will make a meaningful contribution to Hampshire’s energy needs by delivering green energy to approximately 4200 homes annually.
Over the lifetime of the project, it could save an estimated 268,000 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted. This is around the same reduction in carbon emissions as taking over 58,000 cars off UK roads.
Development Director at Renewable Connections John Leith said: “We are delighted Test valley Borough Council have granted consent for South Park Solar Farm. The Council declared their own climate emergency in 2019 and solar is one of the cleanest, lowest cost forms of energy available that can be quickly deployed.
“Throughout the project development we engaged with local people and the feedback received helped shape the final design of the Solar Farm, which includes proposals to greatly enhance the biodiversity of the area, creating new habitats, and offering food and shelter to wildlife.”
