CPS Energy has chosen Renewable Energy Systems to build a solar and energy storage project in San Antonio, Texas.
RES was awarded the contract for the engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance of the facilities, following a competitive request for proposal.
The project, which is to be built on the Southwest Research Institute campus, will consist of 5MW of solar capacity co-located with a 10MW RESolve lithium-ion battery storage system.
Construction of the project will begin in October with commercial operation expected to start in May 2019.
RES executive vice president Tom Duckett said: “RES is excited to partner with CPS Energy to construct a solar and energy storage project.
“Having 3GW of wind and 238MW of solar already constructed or under construction in the state, this will mark RES’s first energy storage project in Texas and will utilise RES’s industry-leading energy storage control platform, RESolve.”
