RP Global has started construction of a 50MW solar park in Harbke, Saxony-Anhalt, on the spoil tip of one of Germany’s oldest lignite mines.
The company said this is its first German solar project and is being delivered with EPC partner MaxSolar.
An expansion of the plant is planned for the future.
The project is located on land shaped by decades of mining activity and crossed by two existing power lines, enabling efficient grid connection without new transmission.
RP Global said Harbke has historical energy significance, with lignite mined there on both sides of the East–West border after the Second World War.
Construction access runs along the listed “Kolonnenweg” border strip, with precautions in place to preserve its historical features.
The company said the PV plant will be one of the most significant energy projects in the Borde district, which is part of the Global Sustainable Municipality initiative.
RP Global added that the project will support Harbke’s sustainability targets under the UN’s Agenda 2030 framework.
