Saft is to provide Windmar with three Intensium Max 20P lithium-ion battery containers to provide ramp-rate control and frequency response for the 10MW Coto Laurel photovoltaic facility in Puerto Rico.
Saft said its partnership with Windmar will enable Puerto Rico to integrate more solar power into its electricity network.
It said the batteries allow Windmar to meet the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority’s minimum technical requirements of 4.5MW of peak power for ramp-rate control and 1MW for frequency response.
In addition to Saft’s role, Ingeteam is supplying PV inverters and power conversion and SolarWorld is supplying PV panels and engineering procurement and construction services to Windmar.
Saft business development manager Jim McDowall said: “In remote locations and islands, it is essential our batteries can handle substantial daily energy flows and high power outputs in order to stabilize solar farms.”
