Saipem and Equinor have signed a co-operation agreement to develop floating solar technology for nearshore deployment.
The technology is a modular concept designed for easy fabrication, which is based on an idea developed by Moss Maritime, part of Saipem’s XSIGHT division, Saipem said.
The technology will be specifically developed for rougher weather conditions than existing solutions.
As part of the agreement Equinor and Moss Maritime will combine their experiences and know-how to further develop the concept, with the ambition of becoming a leading developer of coastal floating solar.
“The agreement with Equinor goes in the direction taken by Saipem and Moss Maritime towards the development of new technologies related to clean energy,” Moss Maritime chief executive Ida Husem said.
“Moss Maritime is constantly looking for opportunities where to apply its expertise in engineering design and services also in the renewable energy sector”.
