Scatec has agreed a 25-year power purchase agreement with Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) that will see development of a 50MW solar project in the country.
The Norwegian developer will fully own the facility to be built in Selebi Phikwe, a former mining town in the east of the country.
It will also act as the designated engineering, procurement and construction company, asset manager, and O&M contractor.
“We are proud to have reached this milestone with the BPC – demonstrating our ability to support and deliver clean energy and infrastructure to Sub-Saharan Africa,” said Scatec general manager for the region Jan Fourie.
The solar project will produce enough power to supply 20,000 households annually, the developer added, taking advantage of Botswana’s “vast solar energy potential”.
