Sonnedix has acquired Polish solar developer Sun Power Energy, which has a 1GW development pipeline across the country.
The Poland acquisition brings Sonnedix’s total capacity of operating assets and projects under development and construction to over 6.5GW worldwide.
Poland is the independent power producer’s second market entry within three months, following its first German acquisition, which has a 5.6MW operational portfolio, in December 2021.
Sonnedix is now present in six European countries, in addition to its operations in Chile, the US and Japan.
Sonnedix chief executive Axel Thiemann said: “The Sun Power Energy platform acquisition aligns perfectly with our growth strategy for Europe; we are gaining an excellent local team and an impressive pipeline as a catalyst for our ambitious growth strategy for Poland.
“The strong synergy with our core capabilities means we will jointly be able to accelerate the conversion of the pipeline, drive further growth, and provide a long-term commitment to the Polish energy transition.”
Sun Power Energy’s managing director Justyna Nesteruk joins Sonnedix as head of growth and representative director for Poland.
Nesteruk said: “Sonnedix is a perfect match, providing us with the opportunity to expand the development of solar projects and to operate these assets for the long term.
“We are delighted to become part of Sonnedix and will work together to build a bright future.”
The solar global IPP is actively seeking further growth opportunities through the acquisition of both operational and development projects.
Sonnedix was advised by Santander (financial), CMS (legal), and DNV (technical) while Sun Power Energy was advised by DWF (legal).
