Sonnedix has signed an agreement with VW Kraftwerk GmbH for the supply of renewable Guarantees of Origin from its 150MW Covatillas photovoltaic complex in Spain.
The company said the deal entails the delivery of 104GWh of renewable energy certificates per year for 10 years.
According to Sonnedix, the contract will support the Volkswagen Group in decarbonising its European operations.
The GOs will come from the Covatillas 1, 5, and 6 plants located in Minglanilla, Graja de Iniesta, and Puebla del Salvador in Cuenca.
The complex came online in June and is described as one of the company’s most significant solar developments in the Iberian region.
“These renewable solutions that align with their climate commitments,” said Axel Thiemann, chief executive of Sonnedix.
Gerson González, managing director of Sonnedix Spain, added: “Spain has become a strategic hub for renewable supply in Europe, and projects like Covatillas are a clear example.”
Sonnedix said the complex incorporates 274,260 bifacial modules, 3,680 2V trackers and an on-site 150MVA substation.
It generates an annual average of 298,500MWh and avoids more than 108,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
