France has chosen 33 projects with a combined 52MW through a tender to boost solar power with storage in its overseas territories.
The photovoltaic plants in Corsica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Reunion and the French Guyana will represent an investment of €140m, the environment and energy ministry said.
The facilities will earn a guaranteed fixed price averaging €204 per MWh, or less than half the rate offered in a previous tender.
This means that solar plants with storage have become competitive in these remote areas, where the average cost to generate electricity is €225 per MWh, it said.
