Developer Elgin Energy has received planning permission for the 20MW Speyslaw solar PV project near Urquhart in northeast Scotland.
Moray Council’s nod for the project, which Elgin claims will be Scotland’s largest PV facility to date, is valid for 30 years, from the first time energy is exported from the 47-hectare site.
Cabling will be laid underground to allow sheep to graze around the panels, the council said.
The project will have around 80,000 panels, substation, 20 inverter stations and CCTV camera systems, encircled by a two-and-a-half meter high deer fence.
