Total’s joint venture with Indian renewables developer Adani is to expand its solar PV portfolio to 2300MW from 2100MW.
The expansion comprises a 100MW and a 30MW facility in northern India and a 75MW installation in the west of the country.
Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), a renewable energy subsidiary of Adani, formed a joint venture with Total earlier this year, contributing a 2.1GW portfolio of solar power plants.
As part of an option provided for in the initial contract for the formation of the JV, Total and AGEL agreed to extend this portfolio to 2.3GW with the addition of new solar farms.
Total chief executive Patrick Pouyanne said: “With an ambitious target of 175GW of installed capacity by 2022, India is a strong growth area for renewable energy.
“Since last year, the group has strengthened its commitment in India with around 5GW of solar projects in the country, in line with its ambition to become a world leader in renewable energies.
“We are very pleased to further expand our partnership with the Adani Group.”
AGEL has 14GW of operating, under-construction and awarded renewable power projects catering to investment-grade counterparties.
