Chinese manufacturer Trina Solar is to supply modules to the Futura 1 photovoltaic project in Brazil, the first phase of which will have capacity of 850MW.
Futura 1 will comprise three phases, made up of 22 individual facilities developed by Focus Energia, at Juazeiro in the Bahia region.
Trina Solar said the first modules will leave China in 108 containers in the second week of August with 59,292 pieces of 600W series of units.
The bifacial modules, with 210 mm cells, belong to the Vertex line, it added.
Construction is underway with operations scheduled to start in April 2022.
Trina Solar vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean Alvaro Garcia Maltras said: “Trina Solar has the most advanced technology and the most powerful modules with great performance. This, for sure, helped Focus to choose us.”
Focus Energia chief executive Alan Zelazo said that about 2000 direct jobs and 4000 indirect jobs will be generated during the project’s implementation.
All output from Futura 1 will be sold on the free market, Focus Energia said.
“The strategy follows the latest trend in which renewable energy generation entrepreneurs tend to prefer to negotiate directly with clients, instead of competing in auctions,” the company said.
