Pegasus Group has secured planning permission for a 50MW solar and battery storage scheme near Telford, in England, on behalf of JBM Solar Projects.
Telford & Wrekin Council “unanimously approved” the solar farm and associated infrastructure on land adjacent Roden Lane, in Roden, Shropshire.
The solar park will take around 26 weeks to construct and will have a lifespan of 40 years.
In July 2019, Telford & Wrekin Council became one of nearly 200 UK local authorities to have declared a climate emergency.
Chris Cox of Pegasus Group said: “The proposed development will provide a significant amount of renewable energy to support legally binding national targets to reduce carbon emissions, and the Climate Emergency declared by Telford & Wrekin.
“The site has been carefully selected and is not subject to any statutory designations relating to its environmental or historic value.
“The application complies with national and local planning policy, provides many public benefits and avoids any unacceptable impacts.”
Councillors heard that the project will deliver key public benefits and investment including annual business rates contribution of around £7.6m in total for solar farm’s lifespan and will result in the creation of 70-80 jobs.
Wildflower grass and hedgerows planting along with installation of bat and bird boxes around the site will also take place.
JBM Solar Projects has securing planning consent for more than 450MW of solar projects to date.
