US developer Hecate Energy has started construction on two solar farms in the states of Texas and Ohio with a combined capacity of 600MW.

Work is underway on the 500MW Roseland project, which also includes a 50MW battery storage facility, in Texas.

Roseland, which is located in Falls County, is expected to achieve commercial operation in the third quarter of 2022.

Hecate developed the project and entered an agreement with a major unnamed European producer of renewable energy, which will oversee construction and operations.

The company has also started to build the 100MW Highland solar complex, which consists of two separate facilities in Highland County, Ohio.

The first of the projects is expected to achieve commercial operation in December.

Both developments will supply electricity to the City of Cincinnati.

Hecate senior vice president of operations Craig Overmyer said: “Hecate Energy is proud to play a part in building a renewable energy future for Texas.

“The combination of reliable, resilient, emission-free solar power and battery storage will enable the Roseland project to help stabilize the power grid, increase operational efficiency, and lower power costs.”

On 12 May, Repsol and Hecate Energy signed an agreement for the former to acquire a 40% stake in the latter.
