The Government of Uzbekistan is looking to procure 400MW of solar capacity as part of a series of upcoming tenders.
Uzbekistan energy minister Alisher Sultanov outlined a series of forthcoming energy tenders during the third Uzbek-German business forum, held in Frankfurt.
Sultanov said that by the end of 2021 Uzbekistan will announce three new international tenders, for the construction of over 400 km of overhead power lines, plus two new tenders for 400MW of solar energy.
Further tenders, to provide 200MW of energy generation capacity, will be announced in 2022,
Sultanov said he was inviting German companies to participate in the upcoming tenders, due to “great opportunities” for cooperation in the energy sector.
Uzbekistan’s government has launched several tenders for energy infrastructure projects since 2019.
Ongoing tenders include solar PV power plants with total capacity of 1 GW in 2019-2025, supported by the Asian Development Bank.
Bilateral agreements signed with foreign companies, including Total Eren (France), Masdar (UAE), and Aqua Power (Saudi Arabia), will also amount to 1.6GW total capacity.
Sultanov also highlighted Uzbekistan’s energy reforms to date, and reiterated the country’s ambitious goal to double by 2030 its energy generation capacity to 30GW, 25% of which will be from renewables.
He added that solar resources represent 51 billion tonnes of oil equivalent and wind energy resources represent 360 million tonnes of oil equivalent.
