Vitol has entered into an agreement with Meta Platforms to provide the tech company with renewable energy credits and other environmental attributes from a 50MW solar and storage plant in California.
The credits will be derived from Vitol’s Ocotillo Wells project to supply Meta’s operations in the region.
Vitol has developed and will construct, own and operate the Ocotillo Wells solar facility in San Diego County, which will also include a four-hour battery storage system.
The solar-storage plant is scheduled to be operational in summer 2023.
The project is part of Vitol’s growing corporate offering which enables companies across the US to source renewable energy to power their businesses.
Head of Renewables Americas at Vitol Andrew De Pass said: “We are delighted to help Meta in its ongoing aim of securing 100% of renewable energy for its operations.
“Ocotillo Wells adds to Vitol’s growing portfolio of renewable energy assets, it will also provide economic benefits to the local community as well as job opportunities during the project’s construction and operations.”
